About UCEED 2021
Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design (UCEED) is a national level entrance exam conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT Bombay) to offer admission to aspiring students in Bachelor of Design (B.Des) programs at the Industrial Design Centre (IDC), IIT Guwahati, IIT Hyderabad, IIITDM Jabalpur and other colleges that accept UCEED scores for admission.

UCEED Eligibility 2021
Qualifying Exam
- According to the UCEED 2021 eligibility criteria, aspirants must complete the HSC exam/Class XII board exam in the year 2020.
- Students who will appear in the Class XII board exam in the year 2021 are also eligible to apply for admission to the UCEED. But they must pass the qualifying exam at the time of entry; otherwise, the candidature will be canceled from getting admission for undergraduate courses in a different design program.
- Students who qualify for their exam from any of the following disciplines, I.e., Science stream without Maths/Physics/Chemistry or Commerce, Arts, Humanities are eligible to apply for admission in IIT Bombay, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Guwahati, and IIITDM Jabalpur.
- In contrast, candidates who pass the Class XII exam or an equivalent from the Science discipline with Maths, Physics, and Chemistry can register for admission in different design programs of undergraduate at IIT Bombay, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Guwahati, and IIITDM Jabalpur.
Age limit
- The specified eligibility criteria state that the candidates from the General/OBC-NCL/EWS category applying for the UCEED must be born on or after October 1, 1996.
- SC/ST/PwD category students get a relaxation of five years. They would be eligible to register for the UCEED 2021 if they were born on or after October 1, 1991.
Applicants from all the categories who fall under the prescribed age bracket can fill the application form of the UCEED for admission in the design program at different IITs over the country.
Maximum number of Attempts
Following the eligibility criteria of UCEED, students are applicable to appear consecutively twice in the UCEED. Students must note that the score of the UCEED is valid only for one year.
UCEED Application Form 2021
All the candidates who want to participate in the exam must need to apply for the exam by filling the application form through the official website of the UCEED. It is an online process that involves some of the following steps:
Step 1: Registration
- Visit the official website and register yourself first by providing the required details such as email ID, mobile number, etc.
Step 2: Fill the Application Form

Step 3: Login
- Re-login by entering the email address and password.

Step 4: Upload Document
- Candidates will have to upload the required documents
- After the documents are uploaded, click on the Pay Fee and Submit’ button.
Step 5: Fee Payment
- Candidates can pay the application fee in online mode through net banking/ debit card/ credit card.

UCEED Exam Pattern 2021

UCEED Exam Pattern - Part A
- Number of Sections: Three sections will be presented in the question paper.
- Mode: UCEED Part A will be held in the online mode.
- Number of Questions: 68 questions will totally be asked in the UCEED Part A.
- Type of Questions: Section 1 will contain numerical answer type questions, Section 2 will consist of multiple select questions (MSQs), and Section 3 will comprise Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs).
- Medium: The language for the UCEED question paper will be English.

UCEED Exam Pattern 2021 - Part B
The question of Part-B will be displayed on the computer screen. However, candidates have to answer it in the written/drawn format in the answer book provided by the invigilator only. There will be only one question, and students have 30 minutes to solve it.
- Candidates must answer this question.
- At the end of the test duration, the invigilator will collect the booklet.
- Marks: 300 is the maximum score allotted for both Part A and B.
- Duration: The duration of the entrance exam is 3 hours. Candidates have to answer the question of Part A and Part B in the given time.

Preparation Tips for UCEED 2021
- Understand the theory and concepts of drawing like perspective, human figure and proportion, shade, shadows, and textures. Questions will be based on the fundamentals of drawing, even though the UCEED does not have a drawing section.
- Understand the basic principles and elements of design, like color theory, typography, animation techniques.
- Work on your vocabulary and general knowledge by reading newspapers and books (like Manorama), surfing the web, or watching youtube videos related to these topics.
- Be clear on fundamental topics of science and math.
- Strike a balance between studying smart and attempting to cover everything in a topic.
- Plan your preparation with the time available so that you can cover as many topics instead of focusing on mastery over fewer topics.
- Start studying well in advance because the range of knowledge and aptitude testing in the UCEED is vast.
- Understand that this exam will test you for thorough knowledge gained over time. General knowledge is not a topic that can be studied at the last minute. You are required to do research and make reading a part of your everyday routine.
UCEED FAQs
Q1. When will IIT B declare the UCEED result for 2021?
A1. IIT Bombay will announce the result of the UCEED on March 10. Students can check their results from the UCEED official website by supplying the requisite details. They can also download the scorecard of UCEED 2021.
Q2. Is there any negative marking in the UCEED?
A2. In some segments of Part A, negative marking is applicable.
Q3. My birth date is only a few days/weeks/months/years short of the eligibility criteria for age. Can you make an exemption for me?
A3. Kindly note that no exemption shall be made in these cases.
Q4. I do not possess a birth certificate for proof of date of birth. What should I do?
A4. In case you do not have your birth certificate, you can upload a copy of passport/Aadhaar Card/X class mark sheet/school leaving certificate showing your date of birth.
Q5. I am not able to get the valid OBC-NCL certificate before the registration deadline. Can I upload my OBC certificate instead?
A5. No, applications under the OBC-NCL category without a valid certifi cate will be rejected.
